I had to write about this!
I am privileged to stay in a beautiful Bed and Breakfast in Durban North, South Africa. Khanya Kude (meaning light that shines from far) is an Afro Chic bed and breakfast designed and built by Pink van Hoek.
When I first moved in, I felt as if I was staying in a Safari lodge. I wake up in the mornings to a spectacular view, looking out on the indigenous garden to the sea. I am an early riser so I love watching the sun rise and how the light changes the landscape.
I am actually writing this at a table near the pool, what more can I ask for? We have about 16 different bird species that pay us a visit during the day. I plan to try and document these in the future. I have photographed the resident blue header lizard on several occasions and sometimes sit amongst the lavender plants to photograph the bees. Right now I am watching a small Cape White Eye flying up to the mirror pink has placed behind a tree.
Living in a bed and breakfast has a different take on life. It reminds me a bit of my younger days when I lived in a commune. We are a small Bed and Breakfast with 4 beautifully designed rooms. We have guests enjoying our home, swimming in the pool or having drinks on the front Patio.
I am fortunate to have an extra large bedroom, which has a sunken bath, out door shower and comfy kudu skin leather couch. If I am looking for some quiet time I retreat to the bedroom or spot in the garden.
